Grounding is a way to bring attention back to the present. It does not need to remove every difficult feeling to be useful.

A gentle way to begin

  1. Put both feet on a steady surface if that feels comfortable.
  2. Name three things you can see and two sounds you can hear.
  3. Notice one point of contact, such as your back against a chair.
  4. Choose one small next action, or decide to pause for another minute.

Keep the goal realistic

Try the idea as a small experiment. Notice what helps, what does not fit, and what support or adjustment would make the next step more workable.

When to reach out

If grounding makes you feel more distressed, stop and choose a familiar activity or contact someone you trust.
